WWOT Event | The Longest Day Write-a-thon at Scuppernong Books & Wine

alz logoWomen Writers of the Triad is excited to announce The Longest Day Write-A-Thon on Sunday, June 21 to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. Join us at Scuppernong Books from noon-6pm (or anytime throughout the day) for a day of writing, prizes, readings, open mic, and more.

Today, over 35 million people across the world are living with Alzheimer’s, including more than 5 million Americans. In the United States alone, more than 15 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. And these numbers will only continue to rise unless we take action.  Learn more about Alzheimer’s on this fact sheet.

Did you know that women make up 72% of Alzheimer’s patients? Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S.

WWOT is proud to participate in The Longest Day® to honor or remember those who face Alzheimer’s — and their caregivers.

Scuppernong-BooksAnd we are grateful to Scuppernong Books for the beautiful space to write and spend the day, and hope you’ll come down and support the store and cheer on the writers, or hang around and write with us! We’ll build awareness, raise money, celebrate those we love and have some fun.  To that end, there will be an open mic, prizes, writers’ first aid stations and a poetry booth on site!

You do not have to join our team to attend, but for those who would like to join us or make a donation, you may do so on our Team Page

2015_WWOT_LogoWhether you decide to join our team or come down to cheer on the writers, we’d love to see you there.  Spend the day writing AND make a difference at the same time.

Here we are! This is the event that my writing group and I are putting together for the Alzheimer’s Association “The Longest Day” event. If you have a moment, please take a look, join our team or just follow along for moral support. Of course, donations are always welcome and they are the key to research to find a cure for this heart-breaking disease. I will keep you all posted about our progress as we get closer to the “day of.” Thank you all for reading and for your continued support of my mom’s journey!
